Sessions Cover How the Cloud Benefits Research Scientists, Secure Rapid Analysis of Next-Generation Data and Personalized Medicine

Appistry, Inc., a leading developer of cloud solutions for advanced data management, today announced details of its participation at Bio-IT World Europe taking place October 11–13 in Hannover, Germany. With three presentations including “Applying Cloud Architectures to High-Throughput Analytics,” “Rapid Analysis of Next-Generation Data in a Secure High-Performance Computing Environment” and “Personalized Medicine –A Vision for the Future of Consumer Access to Actionable Genetic Analysis,” Richard Mazzarella, Michael Groner and Sultan Meghji of Appistry will discuss how doctors, researchers and Life Sciences professionals can take advantage of cloud architectures and the latest technologies for a scalable, reliable and adaptable framework for data-sensitive, high performance computing applications.

Applying Cloud Architectures to High-Throughput Analytics

Who:   Michael Groner, Chief Architect, Life Sciences, Appistry, Inc.

What:   Today’s high performance computing (HPC) and analytics applications demand more computation and data storage resources than ever before. Application developers and system administrators can no longer depend on the release of faster and larger hardware to handle their processing and storage needs. This discussion will focus on the evolution of cloud computing architectures and the latest technologies providing scalable, reliable and adaptable framework for data-sensitive, high performance computing applications.

When:   Tuesday, October 11 at 4:30 PM (15 min)

Where:   Room Saal 3B, during the Next Generation Sequencing Data Management Session.

Rapid Analysis of Next-Generation Sequence Data in a Secure High-Performance Computing Environment

Who:   Richard Mazzarella, Ph.D., Senior Strategic Computational Biologist, Appistry, Inc.??

What:   The analysis of the growing amount of data generated by next generation sequencing (NGS) methods requires the application of high performance computing techniques for rapid processing and analysis. Pipelines for analysis of exome, whole genome and RNA-Seq data have been developed by a combination of parallelization and optimization of pipeline processes. This results in an inexpensive, secure, fault tolerant and efficient computing environment. An analysis of the speed and accuracy of custom NGS pipelines will be shown.

When:   Thursday, October 13 at 11:00 AM (15 min)

Where:   Room Saal 3B, during the Translational Informatics Session.

Personalized Medicine –A Vision for the Future of Consumer Access to Actionable Genetic Analysis

Who:   Sultan Meghji, Vice President, Cloud Applications, Life Sciences, Appistry, Inc.

What:   Recent advances in Cloud Architecture and High Performance Computing have opened the door to providing fast, secure, cost effective and high quality medically actionable genetic diagnostics to consumers. We will present a vision for 2015 where each consumer may take complete ownership of their genetic data as well as the analysis of it.

When:  Thursday, October 13 at 12:00 PM (30 min)

Where:   Room Saal 3B, during the Translational Informatics session.
